BJP-Allies party in goa : After the demise of Manohar Parrikar, a meeting of the BJP and its allies was convened in Goa on Sunday to elect a new Chief Minister. However, no decision was taken in the name of the Chief Minister. Union minister Nitin Gadkari was also present in the meeting. BJP legislator Michael Lobo said that the MLA of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) Sudin Dhawalkar wants to become the chief, after which the discussion was canceled. On the other hand, Congress has presented a claim to the governor to form the government.
‘Chief Minister of coalition will become leader’
According to Lobo – Dhawlikar wants to become the Chief Minister himself, while the BJP wants the coalition leader to be the chief minister. BJP MLAs have proposed the name of Vishwajit Rane and Pramod Sawant to the Chief Minister.
On the other hand, Vijay Sardesai, chief of the Goa Forward Party (GFP) said that the decision on the Chief Minister in the BJP-allies meeting was not taken. Our support was to Parrikar Ji, not the BJP. Now if they are not, options are open. We want stability in Goa, we do not want to disband the House. We will wait for BJP’s next move. There is concern in all the allies about how the place will be filled after Parrikar’s demise. GFP has 3 legislators.
‘Hopefully Gadkari will announce the name'(BJP-Allies party in goa)
Dhawalikar said that Gadkari had different meetings with the MLAs and made some questions. It would not be fair to mention those questions. We are hoping that Gadkari can announce the name of the Chief Minister on Monday. After this, MGP will decide whether to support the government or not.
Many leaders are in touch with us to form government: Congress
Goa Congress President Girish Chodankar claimed that many non-Congress MLAs are in touch with him to form the government. We are preparing the strategy, hopefully soon Governor Mridula Sinha will give us an opportunity to form the government. Meanwhile, in a letter to Governor Mridula Sinha, Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar said that after the demise of Parrikar, there is no allies of BJP left. Therefore, due to being the biggest party, Congress has the opportunity to form the government.
State of assembly
There are 36 legislators in the 40-member Goa assembly nowadays. BJP legislator Francis D’Souza passed away last month, while two Congress MLAs had resigned last year.
