In all Higher Education Institutes, the general category quota will increase by 25%

General category quota: Reservation of 10 percent fixed by the government for the general category poor will be implemented in all government and private educational institutions this year. HRD minister Prakash Javdekar said that this will increase the seats up to 25 percent.

From next session i.e. July 2019, a reservation of 10 percent of the general category will be applied to all government, non-government higher education institutes in the country. Union Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar gave this information. He said that for this, about 25 per cent seats will be increased in the Higher Educational Institutes and Universities across the country.

Reservation will be applicable in private institutions

According to the Indian Express, a separate bill can be introduced in the budget session of Parliament for reservation in private institutions. Prakash Javadekar said this decision has been taken in a meeting of the HRD Ministry, University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Technical Education Council (AICTE) officials. Significantly, the Constitution was amended about 12 years ago to open the path of reservation in educational institutions of the private sector. According to the Indian Express, it may be possible to apply a separate bill in the budget session.

General category quota: According to news agencies, Javadekar told reporters, “Reservation will be implemented only from the academic sessions of 2019-20. Reservation will not increase the current quota of SC, ST and other categories, for which around 25 per cent seats will be increased. There are around 40,000 colleges and 900 universities across the country and extra quota will be made available to them all. ‘ However, he did not tell how many seats would be increased.

He said, ‘Within one week the entire template will be ready and we will be able to tell the actual figures how many seats will be increased. To implement the quota, the operation manual will be released soon. All colleges and universities have to mention quotas in their prospectus and accordingly, they will arrange for infrastructure.

How to get reservation for the General category quota

On January 7, 2019, Narendra Modi announced this 10% reservation in the first cabinet meeting of the year. On this day the people of the country were told about this reservation. At the same time, on the next day i.e., on January 8, 2019, BJP introduced the 124th Amendment Bill 2019 of the Constitution in the Lok Sabha.

On January 9, in Parliament, the bill was passed to give reservation of 10 percent reservation to the poor and the educational institutions in the general category. This quota will be in addition to the existing 50% quota for SAC \ ST and OBC. On January 12, 2019, President Barack Obama has approved the 10 percent reservation bill brought to the economically weaker sections of the general category.

  • Agriculture land is less than 5 hectares.
  • If the house is less than 1000 square feet.
  • If there is a residential plot in the corporation then there is less than 109 yards of land.
  • If the plot is out of the corporation then there is less than 209 yards of land.
