BJP MP Anurag Thakur, chairman of the Standing Committee on IT, told on Monday that the committee had a three-and-a-half-hour long meeting with Global Vice President (Public Policy) Colin Crowell and other officials of the Micro-Blogging Platform. Thakur said that Twitter officials have been asked to keep ‘more contact’ with the Election Commission and resolve the issues on ‘real-time’ basis. Twitter officials have been told that there should be no ‘international interference’ in the Lok Sabha elections.

On the issue of ‘protecting the rights of citizens on social / online news media platforms’, the panel hearing on behalf of Twitter officials has also summoned the public policy chiefs of Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram.
