10% Reservation Bill: General category 10 percent reservation bill The Narendra Modi government brought this bill to give 10 percent reservation to the poor people in government jobs, which has now got the President’s approval. On January 9 this bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha. For this, the Rajya Sabha meeting was extended for one day. There was a long debate on the bill in the Rajya Sabha and on that day the bill was passed from the House. In the Rajya Sabha, 165 votes were cast in favor of this bill, while 7 members voted against this bill. After passing the bill from both the houses, it was sent to the President for final approval. Under this, the annual income of the family of the candidate receiving the benefit of the reservation should not exceed 8 lakh rupees. Although during the discussion in Parliament, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had said that if the State Governments wish, they can make changes in this limit. According to the Law Minister, the state governments have the right to change this limit.
The benefit of this 10 per cent reservation will be for the same family candidate who does not have more than 5 acre agricultural land. Apart from this, the applicant or his family should not have a house larger than 1000 square feet. The benefit of this reservation will be to those who have less than 100 yards of notified land of the corporation. Apart from this, even if the corporation has less than 200 yards of land notified, the benefit of this reservation will be able to lift the candidate.
