The Lok Sabha elections are likely to be in seven to eight phases in April-May. The commission will convene a press conference at Vigyan Bhawan at 5 pm. The term of the present Lok Sabha is to expire on June 3. Once the election program is announced, the model code of conduct will be implemented.

With the Lok Sabha elections, the dates for the assembly elections of Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Odisha and Arunachal Pradesh can also be announced. The term of the current Lok Sabha is ending on June 3. Election announcements will be held after the announcement of the elections next week and the second phase will be the election observers meeting. Election Commission will hold a press conference at 5 pm in the evening. Once the election program is announced, the model code of conduct will be implemented.

According to sources, the notification for the first phase of voting may be issued till the end of March and the vote for it is likely to be in the first week of April. May be counting in the third week of May. There is a complete possibility that the Commission can do the Vidhan Sabha elections of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, like the old tradition, along with the Lok Sabha elections. The Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly has been dissolved, hence the commission is bound to hold fresh elections here within a period of six months ending in May. One opinion is that Jammu Kashmir Assembly elections will be held with the Lok Sabha elections, but due to the increase in tension on the Indo-Pak border, decision will be taken only keeping in mind the complex security situation of the state.
